Baumbach’s ‘White Noise’ North American Premiere To Open 60th New York Film Festival
Film at Lincoln Center announces Noah Baumbach’s White Noise as Opening Night of the 60th New York Film Festival, making its North American premiere at Alice Tully Hall on September 30..
“In 1985 my father and I drove from Brooklyn to see Kurosawa’s Ran open the 23rd NYFF, the same year that he brought home the hardback of Don DeLillo’s White Noise,” said Baumbach. “Opening the 60th NYFF with White Noise is truly special for me. This festival was part of my film education and has been a home for me and many of my movies over the years. I couldn’t be more excited and honored to return.” [AwardsDaily]

The Meaning of Nichelle Nichols to Black Boys Like Me
Nichelle Nichols may have been the first Black Starchild.
Long before Funk Lord George Clinton imagined the character that danced, popped, and spun, all the while expanding the confines of Black imagination and rewiring the sound configurations of the groove – and even before the Holy Mothership = Nichelle Nichols had already been there, done that. Patton Oswalt defends “Cancel Culture”:
Oswalt has apologized for remarks he made in the past, and has publicly reversed his prior defense of comedians who make rape jokes. “I’ve never understood the false alpha male view of like, ‘Men never apologize!’” he says. “Yes, you fucking do. Because everybody fucks up. I’ve done jokes where I use the R-word. Or I used the N-word ironically to make fun of racism. But I didn’t realize I was laying out a blueprint for a lot of actual fucking racists, so it’s OK to go: I fucked that up. I didn’t know what I was doing. Or I didn’t know any better. And now I know.”
He adds that some people use the term “canceled” to make themselves “seem more dangerous than they are.” He adds, “It’s like they way people used to say, ‘Strap in folks, this is gonna get dark.’ No. If you have to tell people you’re edgy and dangerous, you’re not. You should just go up there and do fucking jokes.” [Variety]
